Project Specs: 8,300 Square Feet 100% Exterior Walls Built with ARXX ICF AmDeck ICF Flooring System to Perfectly Complement ICF Wall System

Timeline:

Project Started: Fall 2007 Project Completed: Spring 2008

Manufacturers Walls: ARXX Building Products Floors: AMVIC Building System

  • Set against a backdrop of scenic, 360-degree views, the 8,300-square-foot home is built into the oceanfront bluffs along the San Clemente, Calif. coastline.
  • The homeowners focused on using the only the most efficient and effective green building methods, creating a fully custom home designed to withstand the test of time.
  • Given the home's oceanfront location, its ICF core construction will help it stand tall against salty sea air while resisting mold, fire and insect damage.
  • The owners will also realize significant savings from a myriad of ICF energy-saving benefits.
  • Conduit consulted on ICF construction, as well as supplied the eco-friendly AmDeck flooring system.

AmDeck Flooring System

The AmDeck floor system, another advancement from AMVIC Building System to complete and complement their ICF wall system, uses modular, lightweight forms made of expanded polystyrene in place of concrete masonry units. The result is a full range of environmentally friendly benefits, including:

  • Increased structural strength;
  • Greater reduction of noise that travels from one story to another;
  • A complete structural and thermal "building envelope;"
  • Continuous insulation, including an R-value of 17.8;
  • Construction waste of less than 1%;
  • Use of polypropylene webs made of recycled material; and
  • Prevention of insect, mold and mildew damage.

ARXX Wall System

The ARXX wall system also uses ICF technology to achieve several green building milestones. Highlights include:

  • Elimination of cold spots that occur in conventional frame homes;
  • 33% to 50% less air infiltration;
  • Temperature stabilization;
  • Savings of up to 50% on monthly heating and cooling costs;
  • A two-hour UL/ULC fire resistance rating; and,
  • Sound transmission classification of up to 50 or higher.
